Would It Even Make A Difference?

If I sang a song for you
in a voice so sweet that the angels of heaven
who sing their own songs
to the strumming of their harps
released their instruments with a clatter
to the earth
as they stopped and listened intently
with tears in their eyes--
Would you stop and listen too?

If I took a brush and painted
a scene across the sky
in vibrant colors like you've never seen,
so lovely
that the works of the Renaissance pale in comparison--
Would you tilt your head back
and stare at the sky with the rest of the world
with me?

If I built a home
of gold and silver and finest jewels
so grand
that Solomon's temple
and the Palace of Versailles
could not measure up,
and princes and kings would envy it--
Would you promise to stay in it with me?

If I wrote you a poem
proclaiming my devotion to you,
praising your merits in highest terms,
if I shouted it to the nations,
if I used flowing showy words
that would make the greatest writer's heart
stop in awe,
if my poem was
my song
of my painting in the sky
of the glorious home
that I dreamed of with you--
Would it make any difference?

Would it change your mind at all,
could I persuade you to return to me,
and to reciprocate that which I feel for you?
Would it even make a difference
when telling you I still love you hasn't?
